Once again, another classic film’s sexy title screen inspires a typeface. This time, the title screen of the 1937 film entitled, “Cafe Metropole”, starring Loretta Young and Tyrone Power brought about the Grand Hotel Pro font.
The full title/credits screen collection offers a range of influence, including a heavyweight unicase flare serif and a lightweight open and airy script, but it was the film title itself within the main title screen that grabbed my attention the most.
But once again looking back again at the inspiration while writing this, I realize that we may really need to come around and revisit those other lettering styles. Food for thought.
